Why go Natural and Organic First?
I argued that organic mattresses are best for our physical and environmental health in my review of the top organic mattresses.
VOCs, or volatile organic compounds, are the most important concern from a health standpoint. VOCs are chemicals that can be released from mattresses. Formaldehyde, for example.
VOCs can release hundreds of chemicals into the atmosphere that we breathe in, not only when we first buy our mattress (off-gassing), sondern for many years.
VOCs can cause a variety of health problems if inhaled.
There is an easy way to avoid toxic chemicals: Use a mattress made of non-toxic materials or an organic topper made from organic material.
This review includes all organic mattress toppers:
Non-toxic
Hypoallergenic
All natural, chemical-free
Eco-friendly
This review includes all toppers that are free of VOCs and made from all-natural materials.
Why Buy a Non-Toxic Mattress Topper
There are many situations where an organic mattress topper is better than a brand new mattress.
A natural topper, for example, might be the best choice when you:
Have you recently purchased a mattress?
Do not waste your mattress.
You don’t currently have the funds to buy an organic mattress.
There are many other reasons, I’m certain.
You get the following benefits from a natural or organic latex mattress topper:
You can sleep on a healthier, non-toxic, chemical-free surface.
You can improve your sleep quality with the best organic mattress topper. This will help you sleep better.
A natural mattress topper can be used if your mattress is old or non-organic.
What is an Organic Mattress Topper Made From?
Most cases, the answer to your question is a combination:
Natural latex for bounce, comfort, and responsiveness
Cover made from organic cotton
Organic wool provides added comfort and breathability.
Natural latex is extracted from the rubber tree.
It must be made without the use of petroleum or synthetic chemicals in order to be organic latex. You’d be amazed at how few options you have for organic and natural latex.
Although many options claim to be natural latex, closer inspection reveals that they are a mix of synthetic and natural latex.
Also, the majority of organic mattress toppers in this review are covered with cotton covers made from certified organic cotton.
If you are looking for an organic cotton topper made from 100% GOTS certified organic cotton (no latex), there is one option available. This option is available at White Lotus Home.
You’ll find additional information about organic certifications, standards and guidelines below.

White Lotus 100% Cotton Organic Mattress Topper
Some people may seek a mattress topper made of 100% organic cotton (without wool or latex) for various reasons.
This camp was home to me six years ago. I was concerned about the sustainability and use of natural latex tapping rubber trees, so I sought out a topper made from 100% organic cotton. White Lotus was the answer.
White Lotus Home didn’t have an extensive online presence at the time. I was able to visit their small New Jersey retail store and drove many hours to see them. White Lotus produces high-quality organic mattresses.
White Lotus toppers are more expensive because of the large amount of certified organic cotton used. Use code WLH2020 to get 20% off your total order

You can see that the primary qualification to obtain the best organic toppers in the above list is GOTS certification.
The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is the most respected organic certification worldwide. GOTS is the organic cotton certification.
GOLS stands for Organic Latex Standard Certification.
These certifications are not required for many “all-natural” toppings.
What Natural Toppers Meet the Most Organic Standards?
Only three brands can pass the GOTS organic certification test if you are looking for the best standard.
- Avocado,
- Happsy, and
- Naturepedic.
These brands are also the only Made Safe products. These products are free from any materials that could be hazardous to human health.
The White Lotus Home Topper’s cotton materials are all certified by GOTS. However, I did not see them in their database alongside these other brands.
Can the Organic Toppers’ Covers Be Removed?
Avocado Green is the only organic topping that has a removable cover.
However, even with Avocado, the cover cannot be washed.
What’s the Best Organic Mattress Topper for You?
All natural mattress toppers that I reviewed are made from top-quality organic materials.
If I had to pick one, however, from the excellent selection, the Avocado Green and Naturepedic are great options for shoppers who want organic latex toppers.
White Lotus Home is your best choice if you are looking for an organic cotton topper.
